Thank You For Today! Thank you for granting me the privilege of sharing my experience with you. I hope these notes will give at least one insight or realisation that you may not have had prior to casual-virtual conversation. Now, I would like to share some thoughts with you that I have conceived through my experience. They help me make the most of everyday and maybe they will help you also. Life is about growth. Growth is about pain but also enormous pleasure-the pleasure of costant and continuous self-discovery and self-realisation. Sometimes, this pleasure is on the far side of a short-term pain-growth pain. Don't confuse this vital growth pain with punishment or affliction. Accept it, embrace it, celebrate it. It is a sign that you are moving forward to your date with destiny. Pain and pleasure are Siamese twins. We cannot experience one without the other. Crises and problems are merely the midwives of a higher you. They are there to prepare you for the next stage of your journey. Think about it:when do you really grow? When things are going smoothly? When everything is in perfect equilibrium? I don't think so! We grow when we are confronted by the unexpected or the unprecedented. That is when we discover parts of ourselves we never knew existed. Depression is often the result of our unwillingness to confront our crises and use them to move fowards. Instead, we allow ourselves to succumb to the bad fear that enfeebles us. From this moment on, I ask you to look again at your life's difficulties. Allow yourself a brief moment of self-indulgent lamentation. That's only human. Then begin finding out how you can use your experience to accelerate your growth and enhance your personal power. Remember, there are no such things as coincidence or random occurrences. Everything that happens to us, good or bad, is part of a divine sequence of events choreographed by an even higher logic. Even your phone call yesterday was not just an occasional enquiring. Something inside pushed you to call me, and there is a reason for it even though we may never live to know it! We are continually subjected to tests of charecter. Depending on how we perform, we either progress or slip back to starting positions to retake our lessons. But nothing is in vain! No problem is permanent or beyond our capacity to solve it. "This too shall pass." That's the difference between an optimist and a pessimist. An optimist knows that like life itself, problems are fleeting, mere milestones on life's long journey. A pessimist, depleted of hope, is hobbled by his own myopia. If you are sometimes confused, that's good. It means you're shedding outmoded beliefs but you haven't yet reached new conclusions. You are in a state of flux. But you are progressing, you are questioning, you are going where you haven't been before. Think in terms of "we" and not "me". Only when we constantly remind ourselves of our symbiosis with all other living creatures can we fulfil our spiritual, mental and emotional potential. Symbiosis literally means different organisms living together to their mutual benefit. Be aware of your personal ecology with the people and things around you. A person is a person because of other people. We are all appendages of each other. Live with an abundance mentality and not one scarcity. Our most vital resources-love, imagination, energy, enthusiasm- are self-replenishing. The more you give, the more you have to give. Think about it:constructive people seem to recharge themselves by their very acts of contribution and charity. Energetic people seem to absorb energy by doing more. By contrast, lethargic, pessimistic or lazy people seem to lose more of their life force with each passing day. Tap into the higher energy. Be alert to the wonders of life. My favourite people seem to be eternally naive. They work hard at vaccinating themselves against cynicism. They don't allow the scar tissue of disenchantment to form around themselves. They alchemise their everyday experiences to fire themselves up and energise the people around them. They see possibility in every situation. In misery, they see hope. In poverty, they see wealth. In the mundane, they see magic. In conflict, they see reconciliation. They know that everyday above ground is a great day. Our values are what determine our behaviour. They are the reason we do what we do. Except that often we don't know what those reasons are because we are not conciously aware of them. The eternal mandate "Know Thyself!"is more relevant today than ever before. If we do not know ourselves, we cannot know anybody else. Think about this:who are the people you most like to be with? Aren't they the people who are most comfortable with themselves? Aren't they the people who radiate a sense of balance? By contrast, who are the people you are most uncomfortable with? Are they not the people who are most uncomfortable with themselves? We all have a genius inside of us. We are all individual miracles. At the end of our lives, the most important question we have to answer is:were you, you? The most powerful people I know have no obvious outward gifts. Rather they have discovered their unique genius and they focus on developing themselves everyday to the best they can be. They have discovered to love themselves because there is so much to love. Don't hold yourself in contempt, don't lambaste yourself for making mistakes. People who don't make mistakes usually don't make anything. To make mistakes is to be human. Just don't keep making the same mistakes. As a friend of mine says: make mistakes, but for heavens' sake, make new mistakes! Know that every word you say to yourself or others, every thought, every action is a step to heaven or hell. From this moment on, seek to motivate, counsel and uplift others even when you think they've done you wrong. You'll discover an inner power that comes from mastering your own emotions and helping others master theirs. Listen, listen, listen. Listen with your eyes, your ears, your heart, your head. Listen to other people's gestures, feelings, words and expressions. The moment we understand why people do what they do, we defuse our own anger or intolerance. We also act with greater effectiveness, because we can go to the cause, not the symptoms. Don't be afraid to ask for help. The people who are worth surrounding ourselves with invariably regard it as a privilege to help others. It makes them feel special because being asked for help is the greatest compliment we can ever be paid. When you feel weak, just access a strong person's energy. And know that you will be there for them one day. Live life wih an attitude of gratitude. When we take nothing for granted, when we whisper thanks for every pleasure, big or small, contentment will follow. Look around you everyday and find things to be grateful for. It is the most powerful tonic you can ever take. Finally, be a force for good. Every action we take causes a ripple that joins others to form the tidal wave. Everyday, in some little way, make a positive difference. Engage in tiny acts of altruism, make one person smile, feed one hungry mouth with food or knowledge, pump just one volt of your personal energy into the atmosphere. Let the magic and the miracles be your way of life. Be fascinated by your life today. Find wonder even in ordinary things. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
